International Finance Corporation (IFC)
The International Finance Corporation is an associate of the World Bank Group. It supports sustainable economic development and takes up projects with the aim of supporting development of the private sector in Central and Eastern Europe as well as in emerging countries, by way of attracting foreign and domestic capital. It grants also a technical support and provides consulting services in favour of governments and enterprises.
The IFC is the global leader among investors involved in projects connected with
micro financing. The organisation invested already as much as bUSD 1.2 in more than 120 investments executed in 60 countries. In 2008 alone, the IFC granted 13 million micro borrowings in the total amount of bUSD 20.
The IFC focuses on supporting profitable enterprises connected with micro financing, which may serve as a point of reference for other entities in the market and constitute benchmark business model ensuring access to innovative finance products for the market participants that are in the greatest need.
The general level of IFC's investments in 2008 totalled bUSD 16.2, by 34 per cent more comparing to the preceding year.
